TECTITE CARBON meets the challenge at Portadown project

Pegler Yorkshire has helped Fusion Heating to deliver a fast and efficient heating conversion at Quarry Gardens Residential Home in Portadown.

Fusion Heating was contracted to replace the current Economy 7 system in the 26 flats with a new gas-fired boiler system – all while still ensuring the home remained fully operational, which proved quite a challenge. But after visiting a similar scheme in Scotland in operation, Fusion opted for Pegler Yorkshire’s Tectite Carbon range. “Credit to Fusion as they were confident to take up the challenge and become the first contractor in Northern Ireland to use the Tectite Carbon range,” explained George McGuire, Pegler Yorkshire’s Area Sales Manager for Northern Ireland. “This certainly was a challenging project to undertake but it was also the perfect job to highlight the many advantages of using this innovative range.”

Those advantages are centred on not only the push-fit connections but also the heat-free aspect. These can be translated into cost savings - less COSHH controls, no hot work permits, no specialist tools, lower insurance premiums and labour time savings – all of which were welcomed by the Fusion Heating team.

“Quarry Gardens has a lot of elderly residents, so we had to make this installation process as quick and simple as possible,” explained Pippa Mitchell, Sales Advisor, Fushion Heating. “Replacing an Economy 7 system is not straightforward so we investigated various options and it was the speed and efficiency of Tectite Carbon that impressed us, particularly as it is a heat-free solution.”

In the end the project took just four weeks, with a complete new heating system installed, including new radiators and controls in all of the 26 flats as well as the communal areas.

The speed of the Tectite Carboon installation was enhanced with the inclusion of Pegler Yorkshire’s TRVs – a move which further increases the energy efficiency of the project.

“Again, with the push-fit technology incorporated into our TRVs, installation is quick and simple,” added George.

Now the first Tectite Carbon installation has been completed in Northern Ireland, George is confident that other projects will follow suit.

“It is always difficult to convince people that new products work effectively but this project perfectly illustrates the huge advantages that can be enjoyed by using Tectite Carbon.”

It is also important to remember that Pegler Yorkshire has a complete Tectite range that includes Tectite Classic (a demountable fitting manufactured from gunmetal and DZR brass); Tectite Sprint (a copper or machined DZR brass demountable fitting that can be used with Copper or chrome plated copper tube, PB and PEX pipe or chrome-plated copper tube); Tectite Pro (developed for the rigorous demands of the mechanical services sector) and Tectite 316 (a stainless steel option for use with 316 System tube for potable water applications).
